To Husband and Old Son...Happy St. Valentine's Day! May you both recognize the love of God that goes with you today.
And it's Museum day today :) Another joy and love.
Devotional.....
Prayer: This day, Great God, You shine down Your love upon us like rays of sunlight. You shine down Your mercy upon us. Heal us with Your love and mercy this day. Amen.
Read: St. Matthew 6: 5-9
The Disciples already knew how to pray. They had been taught how to pray on their Mother’s knees and in worship at home and in the Synagogues and later as men worshipping in the Synagogue. Yet, here is Jesus teaching the disciples about prayer.
Standing to pray was the most usual posture for prayer for the Jewish peoples. Yet, here Jesus is saying when you pray don’t show off to those who are also praying around you! Prayer is a direct relationship between you and God. Better that you would pray, go into a room and pray in private to God. When you are all alone in a room before God, the focus will shift from you to God. .. and you will begin to sense God’s grace and love.
When you pray, don’t keep babbling to God. As The Message translates these verses as: “The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They’re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don’t fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and He knows better than you what you need!”
Prayer: Thank You God, that You know us better than we know ourselves. We are blessed to be called Your People. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
Many blessings
Lorna
