Be a Blessing Thursday

Another beautiful day.   A slight breeze,  bright sunshine.   Aaaaah.    God's glory is easy to recognize today.

Old Son had a very productive day at the Museum.   He discovered the type of ammo from one of our recent donations (hurrah for local gunsmiths).   He also helped out with Outreach by taking brochures to various local businesses.

It is interesting how Museums are not only about preserving the past for the future but also about communications.   The question we frequently ask at the Museum is, "What is the best way to get our name out into the community?"     While we have special events and special exhibits,  these events fade from the community's mind and we need to keep reaching out.... and find various ways to reach out into the community.

Churches are task with reaching out into our community.  Yet,  frequently we forget and think that Church is just about Worship on Sunday.   We forget (or don't want to remember!) that Church is more than just Sunday....  Worship provides us with the food and life so that we can go share the Good News of Jesus with the community.

Thursday retreat....
Prayer:   Creator God,  correct us when we do wrong.  Send down Your Holy Spirit upon us to keep us whole and positive. This we ask in Jesus’ name.  Amen.

Read  St. Matthew  23: 33 – 37

The “Woe’s to you” are complete but now Jesus states to the Pharisees and Scribes… “You serpents!  You brood of vipers!”    Can you picture Jesus in your mind saying these words?   Perhaps his voice is raised and so is his index finger under the noses of the Pharisees and Scribes?

Jesus continues to say that it is because of people like the Pharisees and Scribes that Jesus sent prophets and wise guides and scholars.   It is because of people like us that Jesus continues to send prophets and wise guides and scholars.     And we treat these prophets and wise guides and scholars like dirt.  Yikes.

Today be aware of the people around you.  When you meet people today,  ask yourself if this person has been sent by God to correct your ways?

In Brandon,  there is one taxi driver that we call “the old sage”.  He is wise beyond years.  And while he is not a Christian,  we have learned more about Jesus and the life that Jesus asks us to lead than any other preacher in this city.    We love when we get “the old sage” to drive us to Church.  Each Sunday he drops us off,  he will say, “Thank you for blessing me by asking me to take you to this
Holy Place
”.     First time we heard these words,  we chuckled.  But the second time we heard these words,  we thought about what he was saying.  Can we too today be a blessing to others simply by carrying out the work of Jesus?     Now go and be a blessing to those you meet this day!

Great God,  may we be a blessing to those we meet this day.  May our words be Your words.  May our actions be Your actions.  This we ask in Jesus’ name.  Amen.

Many blessings!
