Prayer:
Your goodness, O Lord, overflows
within us like a net full of fish.
Prepare us today to accept Your call to be a fisher of all. May we share Your Good News with those we
meet this day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Read
St Luke 5: 8 – 11
Simon now has a net full of fish. His partners have a net full of fish. And Simon is overwhelmed.
Simon falls on his knees in front of Jesus
(a sign of respect) and says, “Master leave me.
I am a sinner and can’t handle this holiness. Leave me to myself”.
Jesus says to Simon, “There is nothing to
fear. From now on you’ll be fishing for
men and women”. And they followed
Jesus.
Many years ago Knox Church Torrance Sunday
School gave us a picture of two children fishing. On the bottom of the picture it says, “And I
will make you fishers of men”. This wonderful
picture has been an inspiration over the years – especially when ministry got
tough and disheartening. It was
wonderful to know that not only did the Sunday School Students and Teachers
want to give an awesome gift to their minister,
but without knowing it… over the years these very same Sunday School
Students and Teachers have been our teachers in making us fishers for
Christ. It is when we open up our
hearts in hope and see Jesus, can Jesus work in our lives so that others may be
helped.
Today ask yourself how Jesus is asking you to be a fisher of men and
women and youth and children.
Prayer:
How, O Lord, are You calling us to be a fisher of men and
women and youth and children? Prepare
our hearts today so that we can hear Your call and act upon it with love and
hope. Amen.
